چکیده

The bucket reactors based wetland system were adopted for the treatment of pulp and paper mill wastewater using two macrophytes namely Typha angustifolia and Canna indica. The study was carried out for the treatment of wastewater collected from primary clarifier overflow (E1) and wastewater after the partial aerobic treatment of primary clarifier overflow (E2). Effectiveness of the two macrophytes was studied and compared for the removal of COD, BOD5, TS, and Colour at two hydraulic retention times (HRT). The comparison of inlet and outlet concentrations showed high removals of Color, TS, BOD5 and COD during summer season. The best removals were obtained at 3.5 days HRT. Also the treatment efficiency of both plants was compared where Typha showed significant removal efficiency than Canna. However, the aerobic treatment provided showed the significant improvements in the removal efficiency of Canna. The aerobic treatment provided to the wastewater also showed significant increase in removal of BOD5 in case of both macrophytes during summer as well as winters. According to these results, it can be concluded that wetland system utilised in this research could be a suitable solution for industrial wastewater treatment.

Removal of Chlorinated Resin and Fatty Acids from Paper Mill wastewater through Constructed Wetland

This study evaluates the performance of horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland (HSSF-CW) for the removal of chlorinated resin and fatty acids (RFAs) from pulp and paper mill wastewater. The dimensions of the treatment system were 3.5 m x 1.5 m x 0.28 m with surface area of 5.25 m, filled with fine sand and gravel. The cell was planted with an ornamental plant species Canna indica. The r...

Pollutant removal by Canna Generalis in tropical constructed wetlands for domestic wastewater treatment

Constructed wetlands have not been commonly used in Vietnam due to the lack of information in the selection of proper types of constructed wetlands, type of reeds, design parameters and performance efficiency, in tropical climates. This paper focuses on Canna generalis, which is a common reed and easy to grow both in water and wet land conditions. Two kinds of hybrid constructed wetlan...

Constructed wetland systems vegetated with different plants applied to the treatment of tannery wastewater.

Wastewaters from leather processing are very complex and lead to water pollution if discharged untreated, especially due to its high organic loading. In this study the survival of different plant species in subsurface horizontal flow constructed wetlands receiving tannery wastewater was investigated. Five pilot units were vegetated with Canna indica, Typha latifolia, Phragmites australis, Steno...

Treatment of industrial wastewater with two-stage constructed wetlands planted with Typha latifolia and Phragmites australis.

Industrial wastewater treatment comprises several processes to fulfill the discharge permits or to enable the reuse of wastewater. For tannery wastewater, constructed wetlands (CWs) may be an interesting treatment option. Two-stage series of horizontal subsurface flow CWs with Phragmites australis (UP series) and Typha latifolia (UT series) provided high removal of organics from tannery wastewa...

Comparison of novel membrane bioreactors and constructed wetlands for treatment of pre-processed animal rendering plant wastewater in Scotland

The performance of a novel industrial membrane bioreactor (MBR) comprising denitrification, nitrification and ultrafiltration for the secondary treatment of primary treated animal rendering wastewater has been compared with an experimental, low-cost and novel vertical-flow constructed treatment wetland planted with Typha latifolia L. The process wastewater followed pre-treatment by dissolved ai...
